Our Wooko Makandie team is deeply invested in promoting Maroon cultural heritage and fostering personal growth through a variety of dedicated projects and initiatives.

HISTORY

The Maroons were the enslaved people that, that fought themselves free from the plantations during the colonial era, and founded various communities in alongside the rivers in the inlands of Suriname. That is where they developed their own unique (sub-) cultures, rituals, norms and values.

 

 

PANGI

The pangi is a long, rectangular cloth that women from the Marron community wrap around their waists to above their navels. But the pangi is more than just an object.
